Hmm. Where did you get that idea?

So I happened to check out my friend Eric's blog, which he's been updating less than I've been updating this one, if you can believe that. I know he's working on a new design, and in his latest entry (which was all the way back on January 3rd), he's got a link to check out the potential new design. Let's take a look, shall we?

Looks pretty good, Eric. I especially like the post titles how they start on the side with the date and avatar and then shrink into the post title. Hey, wait a minute - that's what I did on my blog! Now, don't get me wrong. In no way, shape, or form do I think Eric copied my idea. I don't know if he'd even seen my design before starting work on his. Eric is a great designer and I have no doubt that it's pure coincidence that his post title concept is similar to mine. I just thought it was funny and figured I'd have a little bit of fun with the similarities.

luck Feno.

Note: In this article, any references to jay leno or nbc will not be capitalized. Capitalization of proper names or company names is said to be a sign of respect, and at this point, I have no respect for either of them.

You may recall, a few weeks ago I posted an article featuring videos of Johnny Carson, the legendary host of the Tonight Show for three decades. Since then, rumors started swirling about nbc's "The jay leno Show" tanking in the ratings, and the possibility that current Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien could be moved to a different time slot or leaving the network entirely. Well, this morning it was announced officially that O'Brien would be taking a $32 million payoff to leave the network and give Jay Leno the Tonight Show back after only 7 months. On last night's show, O'Brien joked that he never thought he'd be jealous of the illustrious run that nbc gave "Joey."

O'Brien's last show will be tomorrow night, January 22, 2010, and he'll be eligible to start a new show on a new network as of September 1st. Well, I'm here to say, fuck jay leno. You know what, fuck it - he doesn't even get his name capitalized, since that's supposed to be a sign of respect and I have none for that fuckwad.

Look. If I had a television show, and my ratings tanked so bad that it was killing the ratings of the local newscasts in several markets, my show would be canceled and I'd be out of a job. I wouldn't get a promotion. I wouldn't get to take back my previous job as host of the most prestigious show in late night television. I'd be sent home and I'd be looking for information on how to get myself into the next season of The Surreal Life or whatever similar shows are out there now.

leno's bitch ass gets a damned promotion. Why? What has he done to deserve it? Nothing. leno should be fired. nbc gave him a show, they gave him a fair shot at success, and he failed miserably. Now they're going to let O'Brien go, and give leno the show back. Team Conan has turned out in full force to support O'Brien and I'd highly doubt that any Conan supporters will watch the new leno-hosted Tonight Show next week. With all due respect to the contributions of Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and of course, Conan O'Brien, I hope everybody is so turned off by the actions of nbc and jay leno that nobody tunes in to watch the show, and nbc has to replace leno yet again - at the very least.

I'll be watching tomorrow for O'Brien's last show, but that will be the absolute last time I watch the Tonight Show - save for clips on Carson's Comedy Classics.

So, in conclusion, fuck jay leno, and fuck nbc.

Damn you, Iron Mike Benson

So I'm driving around this morning after work, and on St. Catharines, Ontario based radio station 97.7 HTZ FM, the DJ, "Iron" Mike Benson played a parody of Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." It was hilarious. I figured, "I'll go home and look it up on the internet." Lo and behold, no sign of the parody he played this morning, called "Boulevard of Ice and Snow."

If anybody knows where to find this song, please, for the love of (insert supreme being here), let me know so I can find it.

I've been reading the late Ed McMahon's autobiography, For Laughing Out Loud: My Life and Good Times. I decided to hit up YouTube to watch some of McMahon's work with the late Johnny Carson, and found this hilarious 1982 monologue from "The Tonight Show." Enjoy!

New Twitter BG

I've got a complaint. I did a lot of work trying to make the perfect Twitter background - but then I found out that I can't center the background, only left align. Since the content on Twitter is center aligned, it doesn't bode well for predictability with browser size. Anyways, take a look at this and follow me on twitter @thinksojoe!

Minor update

I was listening to my last.fm stream this morning, and I decided to put a stream of my most recently listened to songs into the sidebar of this site. I also moved the twitter stream up above the digg stream. I intend to establish more of a presence on twitter in 2010, including figuring out some way to get this blog to auto-post links to the world's most famous microblogging service.

Now if only I could get myself inspired to do any of the work that I need to do on several of my other sites. I own no less than three urls with absolute zero content on them at the moment, which is something that I want to take care of. They'll all be Fropac Entertainment Network sites, so I'll be doing a lot of work on re-branding the company. I'm not in the mood for that right now though. I haven't gotten my Christmas shopping done and it's 10:30 AM on December 23rd. Realistically, I've only got a few more things to buy, and I know what they're going to be, it's just an issue of getting paid and getting to the store.

If I don't post here again in the next 48 hours or so, Happy Holidays and don't forget the Mythbusters Marathon on Discovery Christmas day!

Photo gallery updated

I finally took the time to re-build my photo gallery here on ThinkSoJoE's Thoughts. I'd been considering going with something like Gallery2 or Coppermine to do it, but I didn't really want the amount of files that go into those programs cluttering up my server, and the fact that I'd still have to have individual files for all of the images in the gallery didn't help matters either. On the new server, I have a limit of 250,000 files (which is way more than I would probably ever need, but still), so I'm more picky about what I have running on here.

The desire to avoid large photo gallery systems left me pondering how to handle the gallery. Finally, I read an article from one of my favorite design blogs, 24 Ways, that talked about using the web as a CMS. The first thing mentioned in the article is that Flickr can be used to store terabytes worth of photos, and will automatically generate different sizes and allow you to edit them online. While I didn't go on to use the Yahoo Query Language as discussed in the article, I did decide to use the Flickr API for my photo gallery. It took a while to figure out, but I found a tutorial that helped me learn how to properly implement it, and as you can see, it works great and integrates well with my blog.

The next step for this site will be to re-do my portfolio, and then, since all of my gear is finally in one place, I'll take pictures and re-do the "gear" section. Hooray for productivity!

This blog was actually the easiest site to move over from DreamHost so far. Probably because I built it from scratch and knew exactly where to look to make changes to the database structure. I haven't noticed any bugs here, but I'll keep my eye out...

Moving

When I log into my DreamHost web panel, I'm always told that I've been a member since April, 2006. For nearly four years, Fropac Entertainment has been exclusively using DreamHost to serve up our family of websites including BoredWrestlingFan.com and stupid5pin.com. Unfortunately, we've had a few issues with down time recently, and after a lot of thought, we've decided to switch to another company.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank DreamHost and their great customer support team for hosting us for the past four years, and I'd like to make it known that this was a very hard decision to make. If things don't work out with our new hosts, we may come back. Only time will tell.
